Python teaches basic skills used in more complex languages such as Java or C++. For students entering a variety of helping professions, this course will explore the relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences and self-care practices to mitigate burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. By the end of the course, each student will have developed their individualized self-care plan that will be implemented immediately and throughout their career. Topics include self-awareness, relationships, gratitude, mindfulness, supervision, professional development, personal and professional boundaries, mental health, and physical health. This course is designed to address training needs of direct support professionals and human services personnel working with senior citizens with developmental disabilities in community programs. It covers demographic and philosophical considerations, health, social, and legal issues, and coordination of services. This course is designed to provide training to personnel who work with persons with extensive and pervasive support needs.

This is a 4.5 month, full time experience, where the student actively participates as an addiction counselor in training. This is a studio format course providing students an introduction to the digital tools and concepts of making visually baed work across multiple platforms and working methods. The course focuses on composition and layout, investigating a range of design environments ranging from print, multi-page publishing, as well as interactive application formats.
